Fabulous
Trout Fishing
To
quote the esteemed Joe Bennett - "fishing is a strange
and primitive pleasure ... I flyfish poorly. I
have fished for half an hour in the darkness, casting to
fish I could hear rising and all the while my fly has been
stuck in my hat... But when last week ... I dropped a black
gnat over a feeding trout and watched the fish nose towards
it, rise with easy elegance, flash the white of its mouth
and suck the fly in with an audible gulp, then I knew a
joy that is rare, fierce and good."
You can choose to fish in the Pearse River, just two minutes
walk from the Lodge, or cast your line in the Motueka River,
10 minutes walk away. Alternatively, you can drive to
the Baton River (15 minutes), the secluded Whangapeka River
(25 minutes) or to the mighty Buller River (50 Minutes).

has become an artist's Mecca -- you can easily spend a
delightful day or two visiting galleries and artist's

Wine
Makers of Nelson
The Nelson
region boasts a variety of superb wines. There are
many beautiful vineyards where you can sit, relax and savour
the wine of your choice accompanied by local cuisine.
Vineyards are scattered throughout the region -- from
Spencer Hill, Kahurangi Estate and Neudorf vineyards set in
rolling hill country around Upper Moutere to the Denton and
Ruby Bay Estates on the coast, and Te Mania, Seifried and
Greenhough vineyards on the plains. If you managed to
catch that elusive trout, we recommend you try a local
Riesling, a perfect accompaniment for freshly smoked
trout!

Other
Activities
In both
summer and winter, there are plenty of activities you can
enjoy. You can explore the region independently or
take guided trips - whether you choose to go horse trekking,
sea or river kayaking, rafting or skiing. We are happy
to give you advice and information on what to see and do, or
we can organise trips for you to suit your interests.
